The Maps of Nordinium & the Southlands – A Tale of Defiance

Silent strength waits in the darkA single step lights the wayTomorrow’s fight begins todayEvery map tells a tale

Perrin trudged through the Red Range, the wind biting at his scars—memories of Nordinium’s whips. Below, Hightop clung to the mountain’s edge, its volcanic crater a silent witness to the Southlands’ herders. Smoke rose from the village, but not from hearths—Brocken soldiers in grey swarmed the square, their flatbows gleaming. Beyond the peaks, Nordinium’s icy fortresses loomed across the Between Seas, a land of snow and ambition where King-Emperor Lothar plotted dominion.

Bren, willowy and swift, darted beside him, clutching an axe—the only weapon they’d been allowed. “They’ll take me at the muster,” he whispered, green eyes wide. Perrin gripped his cousin’s shoulder. “Not if we reach Gram.” Her hut crouched near the crater’s rim, hiding secrets the Empire craved—a blue packet sealed with mystery.

The map in Perrin’s mind stretched south: Sudhemere’s river docks, choked by occupation, and the Deep Forests where Wolf Riders roamed. Northward, Nordinium’s shadow spread, its mages weaving darkness. The Southlands fought to breathe free, a patchwork of hope amid tyranny. Then a howl pierced the silence—Wilder, the ancient Wolven, watching from the pines. Perrin straightened. The crater’s edge wasn’t just a home—it was a battle line.

"In shadows deep, defiance maps the dawn."
